Join the champions: Lincoln City's promotion parade heads through the city on 9 May
By Clara Voss · 23 April 2026
For the first time in 65 years, Lincoln City will play second-tier football. The Imps are champions of League One, and the whole city is invited to celebrate with them.
A bus parade through Lincoln city centre is planned for Saturday 9 May. The exact route and timings have not been confirmed yet, but supporters are encouraged to line the streets and cheer the players and staff as they pass through. The event is being organised in partnership with City of Lincoln Council and is sponsored by ProAmpac. Keep an eye on the club's official channels for route and timing details as they are released.
Lincoln City sealed the League One title on 21 April with a 2-0 win at Doncaster Rovers. They had already secured promotion the week before, beating Reading on Easter Monday to guarantee their place in the Championship. That win alone was historic. It is the club's first promotion from the third tier since 1951/52.
The title, though, tells the full story of how dominant the Imps have been. They finish the season with 97 points, having won 29 matches, drawn 10 and lost just five. Their nearest challengers, Cardiff City, were on 88 points with two games still to play. The gap speaks for itself.
The run-in was equally impressive. Lincoln put together an unbeaten streak of 27 matches that made them almost impossible to stop. Week after week, results elsewhere barely mattered.
For residents across the city and county, the parade is a chance to be part of something that will not come around often. Lincoln City have not played in the second tier since the 1960/61 season. That is a long time. Next August, Tottenham Hotspur could be coming to the LNER Stadium if they drop out of the Premier League.
Line the streets on 9 May and welcome the champions home.
